hey friends:) with school having started on tuesday, i wanted to share some of my goals in a new format: ins & outs. i heard this style of goal setting from the middle ground podcast & i loved it! ins are habits, mindsets, etc that i want to add in to my life: they're in. outs, are the opposite, i want them out, or less of them. i really like how visual ins & outs are & i'm excited to talk about what's been on my mind.
in: pep talking myself. this is something i've become so passionate about because your relationship with yourself really influences the depth of your relationships with others. we are so good at pep talking other people but how often do we pep talk ourselves? this is something i've been doing especially when i'm in pain or really nervous, and it's amazing. how do i do it? legit encouraging & comforting myself like i would my friends! powerful affirmations that really resonate with you & scripture can also be amazing tools.
out: being late to seminary and school. i love being unrushed & early. let's keep that going.
in: my time with the Lord first thing in the morning. this is my biggest priority this year & it's already been so empowering despite negative energy & immaturity at school. being outside & in His word is so comforting to me. also doing my stim (it vibrates & is so calming and helpful for me), jade roller, and breathwork before seminary & school. this time is so nice to just be able to breathe and think and not be rushing.
out: lying to myself about how people make me feel for real. as a very loving person and a people pleaser (making progress to not be as much), it's easy to just say people are nicer than they really are or blame yourself for a frienship not feeling great. honesty is so important especially with yourself! being 100% truthful about how people make you feel doesn't make you or them a bad person :). no one will know what's in your head, so you need to be completely real with yourself. obviously gossiping is not in, but i think that if we are honest with ourselves in our heads, then we won't need to gossip. this is such a two-sided thing because everyone is probably doing the best they can with what they have & facing much bigger battles than we can imagine. but at the same time, so are we. if someone is making you feel bad about yourself, it's probably not your fault. that shouldn't change how you treat them too drasticcally, but maybe that will mean stepping back a little or giving yourself some grace.
in: turning my phone off at eight pm. i'm waking up earlyyyy for sem so sleep is a big priority for me. the time i put my phone away basically determines my bedtime. highly recommend setting a time for yourself, too. it helps SO much (trust me, i've tried so many strategies).
out: procrastinating. i want to put everything on my calendar asap and do things way in advance for my peace of mind (a big theme for me lately, blog post on that coming soon).
in: meal prepping breakfast! my mornings are so quick that having stuff prepped is sooo nice & super helpful. let me know if you want my ideas for meal prepping esp for brekkie!
out: insta. i've been off it for almost a week and it's been so good. it's tricky because i run social medias for my job, my podcast, & for managing xc (go follow :) but using the be present app & limiting it to one unlock a day is amazing. social media is so mid compared to real life. i have way too many hobbies to be spending time on my phone fr.
in: waving to everyone! driving, in the hallways, out & about. even if i don't know them super well (or at all), i just love it.
out: not going on walks daily. i need to get back in the habit because walks are the best. for so many reasons.
in: writing letters to friends. let's bring that back. i just love it.
out: coasting through school. academic weapon mode this year for real. i really want to make time for homework, study outside of school & take solid notes. learning for life retention fr.
in: yoga. i am almost done with adriene's most recent thirty day challenge and it's been amazing. yoga is a beautiful way to spend time on both physical and emotional care for yourself. just try it, you will love it. i definitely want to keep doing yoga consistently after the challenge ends because it's so powerful.
out: making plans every single day. i want to leave days unbooked. to just rest, recharge, spend time with family and myself. to read. to sleep. rest is in.
in: deep prayers, praying for specific blessing for friends & family, & my christian playlist (blog post coming on that soon too :)) so much strength for me and for others. i've done two days of school and already so many prayers have been answered! God is so good!
...and that's all for today :)
i hope you liked this format, comment & let me know if you want more posts like this!
