november, a poem.

at the kickapoo valley reserve in southwest wisconsin

a surrender

to long days at school

to sadness from cloudy days without end

to cold winds that wake me up

and dark that creeps in fast.

a curiosity

of the moss that grows in the forest

of the corn fields dry and beautiful

of nature getting ready for winter

and of a happiness in hard days.

a heaviness

from lonely days

from the lack of life

from the fear of winter

and knowing this will last for a long time.

a hope

of rest in the stillness

of better things coming

of snowy winter wonderlands

and a thankful heart.

wrote this in november but it's about december too. winter is hard and yet very beautiful in its own way. this is my first poem in a new series of posts about winter <3
