badger girl state: what it taught me.

i hope you like the "lists of lessons" type of posts, because we are back with another one! this one is all about what i learned from going to american legion auxiliary badger girl state. i went to this camp at uw oshkosh and it was crazy, not going to lie. it was so intense, but it was a great experience and i learned a lot (as you can tell). i hope some of them will inspire you in your life & encourage you to believe in yourself <3

what badger girl state taught me:

  • a lot of people are as qualified or more qualified than you, but that doesn’t make you less vaulable

  • go for it even when you don’t know what you’re doing, that’s how you learn

  • talk to everyone as much as possible <3

  • there’s usually something you know that everyone else hasn’t thought about (take advantage of your unique experiences)

  • on the same thought, other people have precious experience you do not have, so learning from them is the way to expand your own knowledge!

  • i am talented !!

  • five votes can be the difference between a win and loss (so vote!)

  • give feedback!

  • i need to work on speaking in front of more than thirty people :) (small town problems i guess)

  • your loving energy feels beautiful & there will be chances to feel that from other people

  • if someone needs a friend, be their friend and you will be their world

  • educate yourself on different topics! get the facts

  • say something unique from everyone else if you want to stand out (it sounds obvious but it makes all the difference in people remembering you)

  • don’t say what you have done, say what you can do for people (super specific ideas)

  • time before to wind down after a long day is just as important as the amount of hours of sleep

  • bring fidgets to camps that have a lot of listening time:)

  • people can make long and boring things worth it

  • you don’t have to complain like everyone else

  • losing teaches you a lot of lessons

  • people skills > fancy experience or internships

  • everyone plays a part

  • there are beautiful capable girls out there who are so supportive and sweet

  • uw oshkosh has amazinggggg pineapple

  • a lot of girls go to small schools in wisco, not just me

  • sometimes bigger schools are worse! size is not everything

  • think about the future!! things can change for the better and you can be the reason they do! dream big and realize that you are the way things will change!

another thing badger girl state gave me was inspiration to write more on my blog! i have so many amazing ideas and i am so excited to share them with you all <3

see you soon,

kate :)

ps: my podcast is growing so fast & i am so excited about it :) don't miss it!!

So good to hear your thoughts — what an interesting week! I especially liked “a lot of people are as qualified or more qualified than you, but that doesn’t make you less vaulable.” Very true.
